  2. UP 2402 operated in trailing unit-only status (by removal of cab signals, refrigerator, toilet, and cab seats) as UP B2402 from 26 February 1992 until being renumbered to 402 on 16 November 1996.
  3. UP 2474 operated as UP B2474 in trailing unit-only status (by removal of cab signals, refrigerator, toilet, and cab seats) from 5 March 1992 until it was wrecked on 22 December 1995.

  5. UP 2532, 2534, and 2537 (all three units already retired) were renumbered to UP 532, 534, and 537 to clear their 2500 series numbers for use by newly delivered GP38-2s.
  6. Beginning in October 1996, a total of 86 units were renumbered to 400-531 group to avoid conflict with GP38-3 units in 2400/2500 series leased from Helm Financial Corp; UP 2447 was renumbered to UP 445 on 28 October 1996 as the first unit completed, and UP 2465 was renumbered to UP 462 on 6 March 1999 as the last.
  7. During the last week of November 1999, and the first week of December, 29 former UP C30-7s previously retired by UP and sold on 15 April 1999 to Boise Locomotive Co., at Boise, Idaho, moved over UP rails from Boise to North Platte, Nebraska, and on to Laredo, Texas. The units were interchanged to TFM and moved into Mexico over the following two weeks. The units involved were UP 401, 403, 404, 406, 413, 416, 424, 425, 448, 461, 469, 478, 479, 500, 507, 513, 529, 532, 2427, 2437, 2445, 2453, 2455, 2456, 2462, 2466, 2468, 2492, and 2498, and all were shown in UP's computer as being placed at the MPI de Mexico shop at San Luis Potosi by 18 December 1999. One report was that BLC had sold them to its affiliate MPI de Mexico, and that MPI de M will rebuild them for use by one of the Mexican roads.

Notes:

  1. UP 2412 (renumbered to UP 912) is part of a confusing pair of locomotives rebuilt by Motive Power Industries, with the other unit being UP 2508 (renumbered to UP 1008). Early reports, and previously published information, showed that both units were rebuilt from the same locomotive. As research progressed throughout the period between 1997 and 2003, locomotive historians were able to develop credible histories for both units. The above information is the best available, as of September 2006.
  2. UP 2417 (already renumbered to UP 917) was retired on 13 October 2003 upon expiration of operating lease; returned to owner Helm Financial; retired again on 15 November 2007 upon expiration of operating lease.
