1923 Coal Companies

The following comes from The Arrowhead magazine, September 1923, pages 12-14:

The following are the principal companies operating in Carbon county:

  • United States Fuel Company.
  • Utah Fuel Company.
  • Spring Canyon Coal Company.
  • Independent Coal & Coke Company.
  • Standard Coal Company.
  • Liberty Fuel Company.
  • Cameron Coal Company.
  • Kinney Coal Company.
  • Peerless Coal Company.
  • Carbon Fuel Company.
  • Scofield Coal Company.
  • Lion Coal Company.

The United States Fuel Company alone produces more than a million and a half tons yearly, which is five times the total yearly consumption of coal in Salt Lake City. And it is an excellent grade of bituminous coal, with but a small percentage of fine coal among it, leaving it mostly coarse lump, suitable for storage purposes and economical to handle. It is weather-resisting and the water material in it is very small - consequently it is high in heat units.
